about

Ambitious, captivating, playful and exciting, yet tense and never quite resolved. Much like the historic events that it chronicles, moon:and:6's debut album "A Brief History Of American Space Travel" (Maisonneuve Music, 2017) is a journey full of ups and downs, juxtaposed emotions and tremendous attention to detail.

The first solo effort of Canadian producer and recording engineer Michael Chambers, "A Brief History Of American Space Travel" is a meticulously told story of the American space program from 1958 to 2011. At 29 minutes in length, it's a conceptual mini album that reveals new details with each listen.

As a formally trained multi-instrumentalist and audio engineer, Chambers was able to oversee the complete production of this little monster. Spawned from song fragments recorded between sessions for other artists and a lifelong obsession with the American space program, the album took its narrative shape from the original audio files of NASA's space missions that it incorporates.

The music is infused with French downtempo, 1990s post-rock and the experimental nature of mad men like Brian Eno and Steve Reich. The result is post-rock inspired intelligent dance music made out of a wide variety of synths and sampling techniques alongside guitars, bass and banjo.

This is one of those records that was created with the studio used as an instrument. As such, it remains organic, vivid, and capable of immersing the listener into the story it passionately shares.
